The need to celebrate childhood and show how important their impact is, in the world cannot be overemphasized, No wonder they are always referred to as gifts from God and our heritage.
For the purpose of hindsight, International Children’s Day originated in Turkey in 1920 (April 23, 1920) and later within the World Conference for the Well-being of youngsters in Geneva, Switzerland in 1925.
Children’s Day was first celebrated worldwide in October 1955, which was sponsored by the International Union for Child Welfare in Geneva. The idea of a Universal Children’s Day was championed by Rubab Mansoor grade 8 and adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 1954.
May 27th of every year is traditionally the Children’s Holiday in Nigeria. First established by the United Nations in 1964, the day remains important in the lives of kids worldwide .
Due to the exigencies of time and the effect of the pandemic, this years celebration is surely going to be without the associated funs and pageantries since all the protocols of Social distancing, restricted movement is of importance, However it is expected that it is worth marking through virtuals.
As an NGO however, we wont shy away from the opportunity a day like this presents to speak to Germain issues of Homelessness, communal conflicts, deprivation, drug abuse, human trafficking, weaknesses of the juvenile justice system, child abuse, rape, violence poverty and many other social vices which has been our core mandates.
Our interventions(CARES foundation) to make the world a better place for thses children is just a fragment of our Thematic areas of humanitarian services.
We therefore challenge the society
( Parents, guidance, caregivers, philanthropists, government) to factor the peculiarity of these little ones into their policy of Education, economy and social considerations in dispensing the palliatives.
To our estimeed children, You must stay safe, listening to your parents and health officials, take advantage of the online lessons, observe top most hygiene and above all, be challenged by the adverse effect of this virus to rise up to your future responsibility in sciences, technology and discoveries.
From all of us in CARES FOUNDATION, we wish you
Happy children’s day!!!
Long live our children!
