Nicola Roberts, the 40-year-old former Girls Aloud singer, has announced that she will be unable to complete her final week in the West End production Hadestown at the Lyric Theater due to a required surgical procedure. The actress, who portrays the role of Persephone in the hit musical, shared the news and a personal health update on Instagram on Friday.
In her post, Ms. Roberts described the situation as “upsetting” but emphasized that it was beyond her control. She stated:
“Today, I have learnt that I have to undergo a small surgical procedure and have been informed by my doctor that as a result, I will be unable to complete my final week of Hadestown shows. Everything is okay. I am heartbroken I won’t get to share the stage with my incredible cast who I love dearly and perform for the passionate Hadestown audiences I’ve had the privilege to get to know over these last five months.”
She added that playing Persephone had been a dream come true, and expressed regret for those who had planned trips or purchased tickets for her final performances. Ms. Roberts affirmed that she must follow her doctor’s advice.
Separately, Nicola Roberts announced on Christmas Day that she is expecting her first child with fiancé Mitch Hahn. She revealed she is five months pregnant and due in the spring, sharing the news alongside a photo of her baby bump. Ms. Roberts and Hahn became engaged one year ago during a trip to the south of France, with the engagement publicly celebrated during Brighton Pride in the summer of 2024.
The announcement prompted congratulatory messages from friends and fellow celebrities, including Rochelle Humes, Jessie Ware, and Laura Whitmore.#newsafro_
