Actress, producer, and writer Mindy Kaling made a public appearance at the Golden Eve pre–Golden Globe Awards event held in Beverly Hills on Tuesday, during which she displayed a markedly altered physical appearance that observers have attributed to an alleged weight reduction of approximately 40 pounds.
Ms. Kaling, aged 46 and standing approximately 5 feet 2 inches tall, has not publicly acknowledged the use of GLP-1 agonist medications that have gained popularity for weight loss. Instead, she has consistently attributed her physical transformation to lifestyle modifications, including portion control, increased water intake, weight training, yoga, and sustained walking regimens reportedly totaling 15 to 20 miles per week.
In a 2022 interview with E! News, Ms. Kaling explained that her understanding of physical fitness has evolved over time, noting that earlier, more rigid standards gave way to a broader and more individualized conception of health and fitness.
While the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved only three GLP-1 medications—Wegovy (semaglutide), Saxenda (liraglutide), and Zepbound (tirzepatide)—specifically for weight loss, public speculation has persisted regarding celebrity use of such treatments. Numerous public figures have openly acknowledged using diabetic injectable medications, while others have not commented publicly on the matter.
At the event, Ms. Kaling wore a black cut-out gown accessorized with diamond jewelry selected by stylist Erin Walsh. In addition to her reduced waistline, commentators noted apparent changes in her facial features and complexion, though no confirmation of cosmetic procedures has been made.
Ms. Kaling recently shared a holiday video featuring her three children—Katherine, Spencer, and Anne—and briefly appeared alongside an unidentified individual bearing resemblance to her former partner, actor and writer B.J. Novak. Ms. Kaling has consistently described Mr. Novak as the children’s godfather and has not publicly disclosed their father’s identity. The two previously maintained an on-and-off romantic relationship between 2005 and 2013 and co-starred as recurring romantic interests on NBC’s The Office.
Ms. Kaling’s forthcoming professional engagements include producing the Amazon MGM feature Hana Khan Carries On and the Hulu comedy series Not Suitable for Work.
The Golden Eve ceremony also honored Sarah Jessica Parker and Helen Mirren, who received recognition from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. Ms. Parker accepted the Carol Burnett Award, supported by her husband Matthew Broderick and their son James, while Ms. Mirren was presented with the Cecil B. DeMille Award and attended alongside her husband, filmmaker Taylor Hackford.
The event was attended by numerous additional nominees and industry figures, including Viola Davis, Amanda Seyfried, Stellan Skarsgård, Ted Danson, Mary Steenburgen, Walton Goggins, Tessa Thompson, and others. Several scheduled presenters, including Carol Burnett, Harrison Ford, and Vin Diesel, were not present on the black carpet but are expected to appear during the televised ceremony.#newsafro_
