Nigerian content creator and musician Oderhohwo Efe, professionally known as Carter Efe, has officially become the most-followed streamer on the Twitch platform in Africa.
This achievement surpasses the previous record held by fellow Nigerian content creator Adesokan Emmanuel, known as Shank Comics.
The milestone was attained following a high-profile live-stream collaboration with Afrobeats recording artist Davido on Wednesday, which resulted in a substantial increase in follower count.
As of Thursday, PUNCH Online reports that Carter Efe maintains a following exceeding 406,000 users on the platform, while Shank Comics, who previously held the record approximately six months ago, retains roughly 233,000 followers. Efe’s follower count increased from approximately 322,000 to 406,000 within four days, a growth attributed directly to the announcement and execution of the collaborative stream with Davido.
Additionally, Carter Efe reportedly set a new record for the most-watched Twitch live-stream in Africa, attracting approximately 83,000 concurrent viewers, and became the first African streamer to surpass 20,000 subscribers on the platform.
During the live-stream, Davido facilitated connections between Efe and prominent individuals, including his spouse, entertainment entrepreneur Cubana Chief Priest, and engaged in direct interaction with Twitch CEO Dan Clancy. Furthermore, Davido connected Efe with Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen for a live discussion, introducing a sporting dimension to the broadcast and appealing to fans of both music and football.
The session further included an unanticipated appearance by content creator Enzo, who challenged Efe to an impromptu boxing match as a demonstration of allegiance to Davido’s 30BG fan base, an incident that generated widespread attention across social media platforms.#newsafro_
