Ray J has publicly disclosed, via a video posted to Instagram, that he is presently traveling across the United States by hitchhiking, a claim he attributes to preliminary work on a proposed reality television concept tentatively titled Celebrity Hitchhiking.
In the video, shared on Saturday, the 44-year-old entertainer appealed directly to members of the public for temporary assistance, including food and overnight accommodation, while traveling from Tampa, Florida, to Los Angeles. He asserted that the journey was intended to test the viability and authenticity of the proposed program, describing his actions as a “scouting run” for the project.
Mr Norwood stated that he was undertaking the journey alone, carrying minimal personal belongings, and expressed a desire to return to Los Angeles before December 22 in order to spend the Christmas period with his children. In accompanying captions, he acknowledged that his personal circumstances had recently deteriorated and reiterated his request for shelter and limited support, indicating that he intended to repay any assistance received.
The posts follow Mr Norwood’s recent arrest on Thanksgiving in connection with allegations arising from a domestic dispute involving his estranged wife, Princess Love. Representatives for Mr Norwood have been contacted for comment, but no response has been received at the time of publication.
Additional videos posted the same day depicted Mr Norwood in a casino environment, where he stated that he was experiencing significant financial difficulty. In one such clip, he characterized his situation as “rock bottom” and appeared to discuss his remaining funds. In another recording, he suggested that he and a companion were seeking accommodation on a nightly basis as part of the same proposed television concept.
The incident occurs against the backdrop of public statements made by Ms Love, who has accused Mr Norwood of abusive and intimidating behavior following his arrest.
