Jorma Taccone, a 48-year-old comedian and former cast member of Saturday Night Live, has publicly disclosed that he sustained severe bodily injury as a result of a fall from a ladder, which has rendered him temporarily unable to walk.
While appearing from a hospital bed on the most recent episode of The Lonely Island & Seth Meyers Podcast, Mr. Taccone described the circumstances of the incident, noting that he considers himself “extremely fortunate” to have survived. He reported that, on the morning of his daughter’s birthday, he fell approximately twenty (20) feet from a structurally unstable, borrowed ladder while inside a barn located at his residence in Connecticut.
According to Mr. Taccone, the fall caused him to suffer a comminuted fracture of the pelvis. He characterized the event as “life-changing” and further stated that attending physicians have advised him that he is expected to regain the ability to walk within an estimated period of three (3) to six (6) months.
Mr. Taccone explained that, during the summer, he had undertaken a personal project involving the painting of a barn located on his property. The barn’s rear exterior wall, which he described as a “large white wall,” had been designated for a mural. As part of the final stage of this project, he determined that string lighting should be affixed along the eaves of the barn to enhance its appearance.
In preparation, Mr. Taccone stated that he had “borrowed numerous ladders,” including one provided by a neighbor. He further recounted that said neighbor expressly cautioned him against use of the particular ladder on the grounds that it was defective, lacked stabilizing equipment, and was unsafe. Despite said warning, Mr. Taccone proceeded with its use.
At the time of the incident, he estimated that he was positioned approximately twenty (20) feet above ground level on the borrowed ladder, which he described as “rickety,” set at an improper diagonal angle, and lacking secure footing. He reported that the ladder suddenly collapsed beneath him, at which point he perceived an imminent risk of death.
According to his account, he fell directly to the ground, landing forcefully on his pelvis and buttocks, which absorbed the full impact. He immediately experienced extreme pain, accompanied by screaming and verbal outbursts. The fall occurred on the morning of his daughter’s fifth birthday, which he characterized as an inopportune and distressing circumstance.
