The Transitional Military Government of Guinea has, by formal decree, suspended the operations and activities of three principal political parties, including that of former President Alpha Condé, for a period of three months. The suspension precedes the commencement of the electoral campaign for the proposed constitutional referendum.
The measure was announced amid preparations by leading opposition parties and civil society organisations to stage demonstrations, scheduled for September 5, in protest against what they allege to be an unlawful consolidation of power by the head of the junta, General Mamadi Doumbouya.#newsafro_
