Kim Cattrall appeared to intensify her longstanding dispute with her former Sex and the City co-star, Sarah Jessica Parker, after responding this week to a remark made by a fan.
On Thursday, Ms. Cattrall commemorated her 69th birthday by posting a photograph of herself on Instagram, in which she is depicted holding a champagne flute and wearing a Moon Mammoths baseball cap.
Accompanying the image, she expressed gratitude to her 1.6 million followers for their birthday messages, writing: “Thank you for all your Birthday wishes! ❤️.”
Among the responses in the comment section, one follower made reference to her portrayal of the character Samantha Jones in Sex and the City.
A social media user commented on Ms. Cattrall’s Instagram post, stating: “And Just Like That… we all know it was Sam who carried the entire franchise. You embodied everything that is the essence of a strong, powerful, and vulnerable woman. We love and respect you.”
Ms. Cattrall acknowledged the remark by indicating approval through a “like.” The timing of this acknowledgment is notable, coinciding with the conclusion of the Sex and the City spinoff, And Just Like That, which ended its third season one week earlier.
Ms. Cattrall declined to reprise her role as Samantha Jones in the series, apart from a brief cameo appearance in season two. Reports of longstanding tension between Ms. Cattrall and her co-stars, particularly Sarah Jessica Parker, have circulated for years.
On Thursday, actor Chris Noth, who also appeared in the Sex and the City franchise, extended public birthday wishes to Ms. Cattrall, distinguishing himself as the only principal cast member of the series to do so. Mr. Noth’s career has been overshadowed since 2021, when multiple individuals alleged that he engaged in acts of sexual assault, allegations that surfaced shortly after his character “Big” was written off the series.
According to industry reports, Ms. Cattrall was compensated approximately $1 million for her 70-second cameo in the season two finale of And Just Like That, wherein she briefly reprised her role as public relations executive Samantha Jones. Her agreement to appear reportedly followed direct negotiations with Casey Bloys, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of HBO Max.
In June 2023, Ms. Cattrall appeared on The View and recounted the outreach, stating: “It’s very interesting to get a call from the head of HBO saying, ‘What can we do?’ and I went, ‘Hmm, let me get creative.’”#newsafro_
