Ms. Jana Kramer has publicly defended her husband, Mr. Allan Russell, in response to criticism stemming from his recent remarks regarding self-pleasure following their marriage.
Mr. Russell, a 44-year-old English football coach, stated that he no longer engages in masturbation, asserting that he sees no purpose in doing so since marrying Ms. Kramer in July 2024. His comments, which were of a personal and sexually explicit nature, generated significant public scrutiny and controversy.
Several weeks after the remarks were made on an episode of Ms. Kramer’s Whine Down podcast—specifically during a segment focused on the topic of sex—the 41-year-old One Tree Hill actress addressed the backlash. She emphasized to her audience that the comments were made within the context of a candid conversation about intimacy and sexuality.
Ms. Jana Kramer, a mother of three, further clarified that her husband’s comments were made in the context of a structured and medically-informed discussion. “It was a sex episode with a doctor who specializes in intimacy and sexual relationships,” she emphasized, underscoring that the remarks were not unsolicited or made in a casual or inappropriate setting. “It’s not like he just randomly was like, ‘I don’t masturbate.’ We were having a conversation,” she stated.
Ms. Kramer criticized the public’s reaction, noting that many individuals appeared to have reacted to sensationalized headlines without understanding the broader context. “Everyone just sees the headline but doesn’t really know where it came from or the story behind it,” she added.
She explained that the discussion on masturbation arose when she posed a specific question during the podcast: “I asked how many couples would be upset if their partner masturbated,” thereby introducing the topic in a guided and relevant manner as part of the overall dialogue on relationship dynamics and sexual health.
Although Mr. Allan Russell affirmed that he is fully satisfied with the couple’s “healthy” sexual relationship, Ms. Jana Kramer clarified that she would not take issue if her husband chose to masturbate. She further explained that her aversion to pornography stems from personal emotional triggers related to past experiences, stating: “I don’t like porn because it triggers from the past. I don’t hate that he doesn’t [masturbate], but I wouldn’t be mad at him [if he did].”
Addressing the media attention surrounding Mr. Russell’s comments, Ms. Kramer, a best-selling author, stated that her husband responded to the headlines with composure and good humor. According to her, he remarked: “To be honest, it could have read ‘Jana Kramer’s husband can’t stop masturbating.’ I see it as respectful, honoring my wife.” Ms. Kramer praised his response, stating, “I love your answer to that.” She noted that he was unaffected by the publicity and interpreted the situation as a reflection of his commitment to her and their relationship.
During the July 9, 2025 episode of the Whine Down podcast, Mr. Russell elaborated on his views, stating that since their wedding, he has not experienced a genuine desire to masturbate. He explained: “There’s no point where I’ve actually felt like masturbating since we got married. There’s a part of me that’s like, I know it’s going to come, so I’m not going to ruin it by doing what I need to do selfishly for myself and then diminish or ruin the thing that we have together.”
Mr. Russell further stated that he prefers intimacy with his wife over solitary gratification, saying: “Therefore, I just don’t feel like doing it, because I would rather have her than go into the bathroom or whatever it is and masturbate.” He acknowledged that prior to entering into the relationship, he would masturbate frequently while single, based on personal impulse.#newsafro_
