Katy Perry made a striking appearance at the Breakthrough Awards in Santa Monica on Sunday, donning a dazzling silver gown with a futuristic edge. The 40-year-old Hot N Cold singer turned heads in the bold ensemble, which featured a head-covering design and an eye-catching chest cut-out that accentuated her figure.
Katy Perry styled her hair in a sleek, 1920s-inspired gelled curl and complemented the look with understated makeup as she posed on the red carpet at the so-called “Oscars of science.” While she mostly struck poised, serious poses, she was also seen breaking into warm smiles in several shots.
Her appearance at the prestigious event comes just a week ahead of her anticipated spaceflight with Blue Origin.
Pop icon Katy Perry is set to make history as part of the first all-female commercial spaceflight since 1963. The singer, whose fascination with space has long been reflected in hits like E.T., shared that she has dreamt of travelling to space for over twenty years.
Speaking to ELLE, Perry said, “I was investigating all of the possible commercial options. Even when Blue Origin was first talking about commercial travel to space, I was like, ‘Sign me up! I’m first in line.’”
Upon receiving the formal invitation, she recalled her surprise: “I was like, ‘Really? I get an invite?’ And then they told me about it being the first all-female crew.”
Perry also spoke of a personal sign that affirmed her decision to go: “I take pause in those moments and ask the universe to give me confirmations. And I really felt very sure when they sent me the picture of the space pod, because on the front of the pod is a feather, and that’s my mom’s nickname for me. So I was like, ‘Okay, I see it.’”
She will fly on April 11 alongside journalist Gayle King, former NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe, civil rights activist Amanda Nguyen, filmmaker Kerianne Flynn, and helicopter pilot Lauren Sánchez.#newsafro_
