Sean Ono Lennon has issued a scathing critique of Rachel Zegler amid the ongoing Snow White controversy, publicly calling out the actress over her remarks and stance on the film’s remake.
Sean Ono Lennon has weighed in on the Snow White controversy, taking to X to criticize Rachel Zegler’s handling of the film and its reception. While acknowledging that the backlash against the actress may have been excessive, Lennon did not hold back in expressing his opinion, stating that Zegler’s behavior reflected that of “a spoiled, ungrateful, and disconnected brat.”
Once anticipated as a key entry in Disney’s live-action remake slate, Snow White has instead become one of the studio’s most contentious projects. The film’s opening weekend grossed only $43 million—significantly below its projected $85 million target.
Lennon, 48, who typically maintains a low profile online, felt compelled to comment, writing: “I agree the vilification went too far. But she also acts like a spoiled, ungrateful, and disconnected brat. So it’s no surprise.” He implied that the criticism directed at Zegler was not merely reactionary but, in part, deserved.
The controversy surrounding Zegler began in 2021 with her casting. While Disney promoted the decision to cast a Colombian-Polish American actress in the role of a German fairytale character as progressive, some critics labeled it another example of Hollywood’s so-called “woke” agenda. The backlash escalated when Zegler, in a since-deleted tweet, responded to criticism by stating, “yes i am snow white no i am not bleaching my skin for the role.”
Further fueling the debate, Zegler openly criticized Disney’s 1937 animated classic, calling its themes of true love and Prince Charming “weird” and outdated. She emphasized that her version of Snow White would not be “saved by the prince” or “dreaming about true love.”
Online discussions continue to dissect the controversy, with Reddit threads, Disney forums, and entertainment sites echoing the sentiment that Snow White suffered from a “perfect storm of bad ideas.”#newsafro_
