Kim Kardashian drew inspiration from Beyoncé while filming a dramatic car-smashing scene for her upcoming Hulu legal drama All’s Fair in Los Angeles on Wednesday.
Nine years after Queen Bey famously wielded a baseball bat in a mustard-colored Roberto Cavalli gown in the Jonas Åkerlund-directed music video for Hold Up, Kardashian embraced a similar look.
However, the 44-year-old SKIMS CEO opted for a strapless lemon-yellow chiffon gown, paired with a diamond-studded ring choker and black-velvet opera gloves, all carefully chosen by costume supervisor Michelle Sandvig.
Kim Kardashian, portraying Los Angeles’ “most successful divorce lawyer” leading an all-female law firm in All’s Fair, was seen standing atop a car, surrounded by crew members, including a man resembling the show’s creator, Ryan Murphy.
As both the star and executive producer of the legal drama, Kardashian raised a baseball bat over her head, attempting to smash the windshield of a silver BMW.
In a comical twist, she also shattered the back windshield, with her oversized sunglasses proving to be a practical accessory by deflecting the spray of glass debris.
Make-up artist Diana Shin ensured Kim Kardashian’s complexion was fully contoured for the intense, rage-against-the-machine stunt, which also served as an arm workout for the 43-year-old star.
The scene echoed a similar one from Beyoncé’s Hold Up music video, in which she famously smashed windows of various parked cars, a key moment in her 2016 visual album Lemonade.
While the act of vandalism might be a thrilling scene for a show, in real life, felony vandalism of property valued between $400 and $10K can lead to up to three years in state prison and fines up to $50K in LA. Additionally, a lawyer convicted of a crime may face disbarment or lose their license to practice.
Between takes of the $69.7M-budget All’s Fair, Kardashian flashed a big smile, showing a lighter side to the production process. The legal drama, which began production in October, features Kardashian alongside co-stars Sarah Paulson, Naomi Watts, Glenn Close, Niecy Nash, Teyana Taylor, Brooke Shields, Matthew Noszka, and Ed O’Neill.
Under her lemon-yellow gown, Kardashian wore a pair of grey sneakers, maintaining comfort during her intense scenes.
Kardashian has long dreamed of following in the footsteps of her late father, Robert Kardashian, who was part of O.J. Simpson’s ‘dream team’ of attorneys during his 1995 murder trial.
Though she passed the baby bar exam in 2021 after initially failing three times, Kardashian had originally planned to pass the California State Bar in 2023 without attending college or law school.
The criminal reform advocate, who dedicated 18 hours a week to studying law with mentors such as Van Jones, Jessica Jackson, and Erin Haney, had aspirations of starting her own law firm and abolishing the death penalty.
Instead, Kardashian has chosen to portray a lawyer on screen, alongside a star-studded cast, rather than pursue a legal career in real life.
Niecy Nash, who has “never” watched Kardashian’s reality shows, praised Kim as “one of the nicest people I’ve ever met” during the Sundance Film Festival last Saturday.
The 54-year-old Emmy-winning actress shared with Newsafro.com in Utah, “I didn’t have anything to go by,” but after working with Kim in person, she was impressed by her work ethic. “She does not phone it in. She’s a hard worker. She puts her all into everything she does,” Nash said. “I think you guys are really going to love the show. And even if y’all don’t like it, you’re gonna love the fashion, okay? Because she’s killing it in the fashion.”
Nash also discussed her own experiences with her hired “Disso Queen,” Laura Wasser, on the May 30th episode of her Hulu show.
Kim Kardashian’s acting resume includes PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie, PAW Patrol: The Movie, Tyler Perry’s Temptation: Confessions of a Marriage Counselor, Drop Dead Diva, CSI: NY, Deep in the Valley, Beyond the Break, and Disaster Movie. She has also appeared as herself in Ocean’s Eight and Alligator Boots and in episodes of 2 Broke Girls, American Dad!, 30 Rock, Last Man Standing, and Brothers.
Kardashian will next executive produce and star alongside her famous family in the 10-episode sixth season of The Kardashians, which premieres February 6 on Hulu.#newsafro_
