Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have reached a settlement in their divorce proceedings, thereby concluding a protracted and contentious eight-year legal battle. However, a significant dispute over a $62 million French chateau and vineyard, commonly referred to as the “War of the Rosés,” remains unresolved.
Ms. Jolie’s legal counsel, James Simon, stated to Newsafro.com that his client, aged 49, is “relieved that this particular aspect has been resolved.”
“Angelina is, frankly, exhausted,” remarked her attorney, James Simon.
“Over eight years ago, Ms. Jolie initiated divorce proceedings against Mr. Pitt. Following this, she and the children vacated all shared properties and have since prioritized achieving peace and healing for the family,” Simon elaborated.
The former couple, widely known as “Brangelina,” share six children: three biological—Shiloh, 18, and twins Knox and Vivienne, 16—and three adopted—Maddox, 23, Pax, 21, and Zahara, 19.
Reports indicate that Zahara, Shiloh, and Vivienne have removed “Pitt” from their last names. Additionally, Maddox and Pax are purportedly estranged from their father, while Knox and Vivienne are believed to maintain some communication with him, although they have not been publicly seen together in recent years.
While the divorce settlement has been finalized, the dispute over Château Miraval, a French vineyard recognized as one of the country’s premier wine producers, remains unresolved.
Mr. Pitt, 61, who is now reportedly in a relationship with a 31-year-old partner, has alleged that Ms. Jolie improperly sold her $62 million stake in Miraval to the Stoli Group—renowned for its Stolichnaya vodka—without obtaining his consent.
Despite progress on the divorce front, the Château Miraval matter continues to escalate. Sources indicate both parties have expressed a willingness to pursue the case through either a jury trial or mediation, as disclosed to Newsafro.com.
A source familiar with the matter stated that Ms. Jolie has been “making efforts to find light after a dark period.”
“She refrains from speaking negatively about Mr. Pitt, both publicly and privately,” the insider added.
“The children have grown up witnessing the disparities of power and privilege, realizing their voices and pain often go unacknowledged. They have encouraged her to defend herself over the years, but she continually emphasizes the importance of focusing on systemic change, such as advocating for legislative reforms, rather than publicizing personal grievances.”
A spokesperson for Mr. Pitt declined to comment as of Monday evening.
Ms. Jolie filed for divorce in September 2016, just two years after their marriage, which followed a decade-long relationship. Reports allege that the filing occurred shortly after a private plane trip during which Mr. Pitt purportedly became physically abusive toward Ms. Jolie and their children.
In court documents, Ms. Jolie asserted that Mr. Pitt’s alleged “history of physical abuse” preceded the plane incident. She also claimed that he attempted to coerce her into signing an $8.5 million non-disclosure agreement to suppress allegations of “years of abuse.”
Mr. Pitt has consistently denied all allegations of abuse and was exonerated by law enforcement following an investigation into the incident.
An unnamed source disclosed to Newsafro.com that Ms. Jolie “had the option to pursue criminal charges against him.”
A source stated, “She could have publicly revealed the events that transpired but chose not to. Her sole focus was ensuring their children received the necessary support to heal.
“Mr. Pitt leveraged his power and privilege to obscure his actions, doing so at the expense of his family, while attempting to cast Ms. Jolie as the cause of his strained relationship with the children.”
In legal filings, Mr. Pitt’s attorneys alleged that it was Ms. Jolie who undermined his relationship with their children. They claimed that former family bodyguards overheard Ms. Jolie purportedly “encouraging” the children to avoid spending time with their father during custody visits.
Despite the protracted legal disputes, both parties were declared legally single in 2019.
Mr. Pitt, now 61, has been in a relationship with Los Angeles-based jewelry designer Ines de Ramon, 34, for nearly two years. The pair were first spotted together at a Bono concert in November 2022 and are reportedly cohabiting.
Mr. Pitt’s representatives declined to comment on the recent divorce settlement.
