Gerard Piqué has accused Shakira of being “misleading” regarding the circumstances surrounding their breakup. In a recent statement, he expressed that he is “very happy” with his new girlfriend, who is 12 years his junior. Piqué’s comments come amid ongoing public scrutiny and discussions about their separation, with both parties addressing the impact of their split in various ways.
Shakira, 47, announced her breakup with former Barcelona star Gerard Piqué in June 2022, amid allegations of his infidelity after 11 years together and two children. Since then, the Colombian singer has referred to Piqué as “Voldemort” and made several pointed comments about him in her music.
Piqué, 37, is now in a relationship with 25-year-old Clara Chia Marti and has stated that he is “very happy,” despite Shakira’s jabs at them both. In a recent interview with CNN, he expressed, “In the end, the truth or what happens is not told in the way it was. I cannot control this.”
Piqué remarked, “The best thing is that in the end I am surrounded by my loved ones—my family, my friends, and the people who truly know me. They understand my character and my actions, which provides me with a great sense of peace.
“I am very happy; I enjoy life and feel privileged. I have had a remarkable life, playing for the club of my dreams for over twenty years, having wonderful children, and being supported by an incredible family and lifelong friends from school who are still by my side.”
Piqué and Shakira have two sons together, Milan, 11, and Sasha, 9. In 2022, the Spanish outlet El Periodico reported that the couple had been living separately for a few weeks after Piqué was reportedly asked to leave the family home by the pop star.
There was speculation that Shakira discovered Piqué’s alleged infidelity when she noticed a jar of strawberry jam had been eaten during her absence, as she was believed to be the only one who consumed it. However, Shakira later debunked that theory.
By the summer of 2023, Piqué reportedly moved in with Clara Chia Marti in the home he had previously shared with Shakira upon her relocation to Barcelona. In January 2023, video footage surfaced purportedly showing Piqué’s new girlfriend in his family home before his split with Shakira.
