Sugar Ray Leonard says his family is living in fear over his 25-year-old son Daniel, claiming years of drug addiction have turned him violent, destructive, and out of control.
The boxing legend detailed the allegations in a restraining order request filed last week, where he described what he says has been a long decline in his son’s behavior. According to Leonard, Daniel has struggled with drug addiction for at least seven to eight years, a situation he says has spiraled into repeated incidents involving violence, theft, and property damage.
In the court documents, Leonard claims Daniel has wrecked multiple family vehicles over the past year, including at least one hit-and-run incident. He also alleges his son has suffered several overdoses, including two that required emergency medical intervention at the hospital.
Leonard further alleges that Daniel has stolen large sums of money and valuable items over time, writing that the behavior has become a near-daily occurrence. He also claims the situation escalated to physical violence, stating that Daniel pushed him during an altercation that required police intervention.
Following that incident, Leonard was granted a temporary restraining order. He also alleges Daniel violated the order shortly after, which reportedly led to an arrest.
In his filing, Leonard expressed concern for his wife and daughter, saying the family has had “no peace” for years due to his son’s addiction and behavior. He requested that Daniel be ordered to stay away from him, their home, workplace, vehicles, and family members, and also sought his removal from the household.
A judge has granted parts of the request, though additional proceedings are scheduled to determine further restrictions. Daniel is expected to appear in court next month in connection with the alleged restraining order violation.#newsafro_
