Despite earning a historic 16 nominations, Sinners ultimately fell short of the top honor at the Academy Awards, losing the Best Picture award to One Battle After Another.
The victory sparked an enthusiastic reaction from Teyana Taylor, who nearly tackled director Paul Thomas Anderson as he made his way to the stage to accept the award. The Best Picture trophy marked Anderson’s third win of the evening after also taking home honors for Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay.
The Best Picture award was the sixth win of the night for One Battle After Another, which had already generated major buzz after receiving a record 13 nominations earlier in the year.
In addition to the night’s top prize, the film secured wins for Best Casting, Best Editing, and Best Supporting Actor, with Sean Penn earning the acting award.
The celebration capped off a successful evening for the film’s cast and crew as Hollywood gathered to recognize the year’s standout achievements in cinema.#newsafro_
