Joshua Jackson has spoken publicly about the death of his James Van Der Beek, nearly a month after the “Dawson’s Creek” star passed away from cancer at age 48.
Appearing on TODAY Tuesday morning, Jackson reflected on how Van Der Beek’s death resonates with him personally, particularly as a fellow parent. “I think the enormity of that tragedy for his family hits me in a very different way than just as a colleague,” Jackson said, adding that the grieving process is ongoing.
Jackson also spoke fondly of their time together on the iconic TV series, noting the deep bond they shared during their formative years. He praised Van Der Beek’s decades-long career, highlighting his accomplishments as an actor, dedicated husband, and father of six.
James Van Der Beek died on February 11 from complications of colorectal cancer, a diagnosis he revealed in April 2024. Throughout his illness, he used his platform to raise awareness about cancer symptoms and the importance of early screening.
