A cosmetic procedure intended to enhance sexual appearance has ended in tragedy after Nigerian influencer Igho “Tiny” Ubiribo, an associate of Afrobeats superstar Davido, died following complications in Thailand.
Ubiribo, popularly known as Ego, reportedly traveled to Bangkok for a penile enlargement procedure involving hyaluronic acid and lidocaine. According to evidence presented during an inquest at Inner West London Coroners’ Court, he developed severe chest pain and collapsed twice shortly after the procedure.
He was receiving a massage from his wife, Danielle Simba Allen, when the medical emergency occurred. He was rushed to Sukhumvit Hospital, where doctors suspected he had suffered a pulmonary embolism, a serious condition in which a blood clot blocks blood flow to the lungs.
Although doctors recommended further scans, Ubiribo lost consciousness before they could be carried out. Medical workers reportedly spent about 100 minutes attempting to revive him, but he was pronounced dead in the early hours of March 6.
A subsequent postmortem examination in the UK reportedly found material in his lungs consistent with the hyaluronic acid used during the procedure. The coroner concluded that Ubiribo died from a pulmonary embolism linked to the cosmetic injection.
Ubiribo had built a significant following online, with around 185,000 followers on Instagram. His death shocked friends and associates, with Davido among those who attended his funeral in London in May.
The case has once again drawn attention to the potential dangers of cosmetic filler procedures. Medical specialists have warned that penile fillers can carry serious risks, particularly when complications occur during or shortly after treatment.
For Ubiribo’s family and friends, what began as a cosmetic procedure ended in a devastating loss, while his death has sparked fresh questions about the safety of elective medical treatments carried out abroad.#newsafro_
