Afro-house singer Niniola Apata is making her way back to music months after the death of her husband, Michael Ndika, with a deeply emotional new single titled “O Du Mi.”
The singer is set to release the song on Friday, marking her first major musical release since losing Ndika, her husband of 13 years and longtime manager.
Niniola recently gave fans a preview of the record, describing it as a way of expressing emotions that have been difficult to put into words.
“Some feelings are too deep for words. So I put them in a song,” she wrote while sharing a snippet of the track.
Her return to music has been gradual. Following Ndika’s death in May 2026, Niniola largely stepped away from the public eye as she dealt with the loss.
In recent weeks, however, the singer has slowly begun reconnecting with fans through live performances and public appearances. She also attended her younger sister Teniola Apata’s album launch, where the sisters shared an emotional moment.
For Niniola, returning to the stage has not meant that the pain has disappeared. Instead, she has acknowledged that music may be part of the healing process.
Ahead of one of her recent performances, she reflected on the challenge of continuing without the man who played such an important role in both her personal life and career.
“There are no words for a moment like this, but I know he’d want me to keep singing, to keep showing up, and to keep sharing the gift we’ve always believed in,” she said.
Niniola announced Ndika’s death publicly in May through a series of emotional posts, revealing the devastating news to fans who were largely unaware of her private marriage.
Ndika was the CEO of NaijaReview and also worked closely with Niniola as her manager. Following his death, the singer shared several heartfelt reflections, describing him as her best friend, confidant, pillar, business partner and husband.
With “O Du Mi,” Niniola appears ready to channel some of that grief into her music, giving fans a glimpse into the emotions she has experienced while finding her way forward.#newsafro_
