Beyoncé is facing a copyright lawsuit over an alleged unauthorized sample used on her hit song “Alien Superstar,” from her 2022 album Renaissance.
According to court documents obtained by TMZ, Hirose Enterprise and producer Shuji Hirose have sued Beyoncé and several music companies, accusing them of copyright infringement.
The lawsuit centers on a song titled “Moonraker,” performed by musician John Holiday. Hirose Enterprise claims it owns the rights to the track and alleges that Beyoncé’s “Alien Superstar” contains a sample from the song’s spoken-word introduction.
The company claims Beyoncé and her team failed to secure the necessary license before Renaissance was released. According to the lawsuit, a license was obtained several weeks after the album’s release, but only from Holiday.
Hirose argues that Holiday no longer had the rights to grant such permission because he had allegedly transferred his entire interest in the song decades earlier.
The company says it notified Beyoncé’s music company about the alleged infringement, but claims the album and song have continued to be commercially distributed.
Hirose Enterprise is now asking the court to issue an injunction preventing Beyoncé and the other defendants from continuing to profit from the allegedly unauthorized material. The company is also seeking unspecified damages.
Beyoncé has not publicly commented on the lawsuit.#newsafro_
