Jade Kops, a 19-year-old Dutch social media personality who openly documented her battle with a rare cancer, has died following a five-year illness.
Her family confirmed her passing in a statement shared on Instagram, where she had built a following of nearly 450,000 people by chronicling her experience with rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare cancer that typically affects young children and develops in soft tissue such as muscle.
Kops died on Friday morning surrounded by loved ones, according to the family announcement.
Over the years, she became known for her candid updates about life with the disease and for using her platform to raise awareness. She also authored a book reflecting on her journey.
In a deeply personal message shared earlier this month, Kops wrote about the physical and emotional toll of her condition, expressing exhaustion while also voicing a desire to continue spending time with family and friends.
Her family has announced that her funeral will be held privately, though members of the public will be given an opportunity to pay their respects at a designated tribute gathering.
Kops’ death has prompted an outpouring of condolences from followers and supporters who had followed her journey over several years.#newsafro_
