A year after the tragic loss of her husband Jeff Baena, Aubrey Plaza is embracing a new chapter in her life—she’s expecting her first child with partner Christopher Abbott.
The White Lotus star, 41, confirmed through a source that the baby, whose gender hasn’t been revealed, is due this fall. Friends describe the pregnancy as “a beautiful surprise after an emotional year,” with Plaza and Abbott feeling “very blessed” as they prepare for parenthood together.
Plaza and Abbott, who first worked together on the 2019 indie thriller Black Bear and reunited on stage in 2023 for the Off-Broadway revival of Danny And The Deep Blue Sea, have kept their relationship largely private. The couple was last seen publicly attending New York Fashion Week’s Khaite Fall/Winter 2026 show, sitting side by side in the front row.
The pregnancy comes after a particularly difficult period for Plaza, following the death of her estranged husband Jeff Baena in January 2025. Baena, known for directing Life After Beth and collaborating with Plaza on multiple films, passed away by suicide after the couple had separated four months earlier. The actress has previously opened up about her grief, describing it as a “giant ocean of awfulness” she navigates daily.
Now, Plaza appears to be stepping into a new chapter, finding love again with Abbott while preparing to welcome their first child—a hopeful turn after an emotional year marked by loss, reflection, and resilience.#newsafro_
