Eva Longoria is bringing laughs—and a strong dose of R-rated comedy—to Netflix with her new film The Fifth Wheel, which she directed and describes as “unapologetically R-rated.” The 51-year-old star teamed up with longtime friend Kim Kardashian, who leads the cast and also serves as a producer.
The comedy follows a group of high school friends trying to reconnect during a weekend in Las Vegas. The reunion takes an unexpected turn when a charismatic outsider, played by Kardashian, crashes the trip, forcing the friends to confront messy lives, questionable choices, and unraveling relationships.
Longoria praised Kardashian as “the anchor of the movie,” highlighting her comedic chops and decades-long friendship. “Kim and I have been friends for 25 years, and when I got the job, she said, ‘Oh, thank God Eva knows I’m funny.’ And she is—she’s so funny. I cannot wait for the world to see how great she is in this movie and hopefully spark more female comedies,” Longoria said.
The director also emphasized the joy of working on a female-driven project. With women serving as writers, producers, cast, and director, Longoria said the set had a special energy. She recalled laughter-filled days spent bonding with the cast, from deep conversations with Nikki Glaser to enjoying Fortune Feimster’s uplifting presence.
Longoria also credited the strong women in her own life for shaping her path to success. Surrounded by nine aunts, three sisters, and 18 cousins, she said their example of independence and ambition inspired her. “I always knew I would be successful because of the community around me,” she reflected.
With The Fifth Wheel, Longoria hopes to deliver a bold, female-led comedy that combines humor, friendship, and the chaos of Vegas, all anchored by Kim Kardashian’s standout performance.#newsafro_
