John Shannon, known professionally as John Alford, was found dead in his jail cell at age 54. Alford rose to fame in the 1980s and 1990s with roles on British television series like Grange Hill and London’s Burning, but his career took a sharp downturn following multiple legal troubles.
Earlier in his life, Alford faced arrests including a conviction for supplying drugs to an undercover reporter, an incident that led to his dismissal from London’s Burning. In 2024, he was charged with sexual offenses involving teenage girls. Court documents revealed Alford assaulted a 15-year-old and a 14-year-old in 2022. The 14-year-old testified that Alford raped her in two different locations in his home after drinking vodka with him.
Alford consistently denied the allegations, both before and after his conviction in September 2025. In January 2026, he was sentenced to 8 years and 6 months in prison.#newsafro_
