It is hereby formally announced that Nollywood actress Ajara Lasisi, professionally known as Aunty Ajara, has deceased.
The announcement of her passing was made on Thursday by Nollywood director Tobi Oladele Teemony, also known as Tee Mony, via a statement published on Instagram. The statement reads as follows:
“With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved actress, Aunty Ajara. She passed on overnight following a prolonged and courageous battle with illness. During her illness, she received immense love, prayers, and financial support from compassionate individuals globally. We are profoundly grateful to all who extended prayers, contributions, encouragement, and compassion.”
The statement further requested that the public cease sending financial contributions to the account previously established for her medical treatment, as such assistance is no longer required. It also expressed condolences to the family, loved ones, and all individuals mourning this loss.
Accompanying the announcement, a video statement was issued by her elder brother, Ridwan Lasisi, confirming her passing and reiterating the family’s appreciation for the support received from the public, industry members, and government officials. Ridwan Lasisi also requested that no further financial contributions be sent.
This announcement follows recent appeals by Teemony and other Nollywood figures, including Ronke Oshodi Oke, for urgent financial support for the actress, whose medical condition had reportedly worsened despite prior treatment and support. Reports indicated that the late actress had been battling a liver-related illness and had required oxygen support during hospitalization.
Numerous colleagues and industry professionals, including Wumi Toriola, Mide Martins, Afeez Owo, and Ronke Oshodi Oke, had actively rallied for public assistance to support her treatment.
The family and the Nollywood community extend their sincere gratitude for the outpouring of support and prayers and request continued respect for the family’s privacy during this period of mourning.#newsafro_
