Ashton Kutcher has formally addressed and clarified longstanding public speculation regarding his personal hygiene practices, nearly five years after remarks made during a 2021 podcast appearance generated widespread public criticism and media scrutiny.
In an interview with People, the 47-year-old actor described the controversy as disproportionate and unfounded, characterizing the reaction as “the craziest thing.” Speaking alongside his co-stars Anthony Ramos and Jeremy Pope while promoting his forthcoming Hulu series The Beauty, Kutcher emphasized that he maintains regular bathing habits, noting that the narrative suggesting otherwise arose from comments that were taken out of context.
Kutcher explained that the issue originated from a discussion on Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast, during which both he and his wife, actress Mila Kunis, shared personal anecdotes about bathing routines. He stated that public interpretation of those remarks led to unfounded assumptions about his hygiene, despite his assertion that he showers regularly, particularly after exercising. Ramos corroborated this assertion, jokingly confirming that Kutcher does, in fact, shower.
The initial controversy stemmed from Kunis’ explanation of her upbringing in the former Soviet Union, where limited access to modern conveniences influenced her views on frequent bathing. She further noted that this background informed her approach to bathing her children. Kutcher added a light-hearten remark suggesting that visible dirt should determine when cleaning is necessary. Additional comments regarding selective use of soap were similarly intended in jest but were widely construed literally by the public.
Although Kutcher did not expressly clarify the extent to which those remarks were humorous, he acknowledged that they resulted in years of public commentary and criticism.
Separately, Kutcher addressed matters unrelated to the hygiene controversy while promoting The Beauty, a body-horror series in which he portrays a technology billionaire connected to a dangerous, sexually transmitted drug that enhances physical attractiveness at fatal cost. The series has drawn comparisons to the 2024 film The Substance, starring Kutcher’s former spouse, Demi Moore.
While declining to comment directly on those similarities, Kutcher publicly praised Moore’s performance, expressing pride in her critical acclaim. The former couple, who were married from 2005 to 2013, have previously attracted media attention following Moore’s memoir Inside Out, in which she made allegations concerning their marriage. Kutcher has since stated that there is no animosity between them, acknowledging continued cordial relations, particularly with Moore’s children.
Overall, Kutcher’s recent remarks appear intended to conclusively dispel misconceptions arising from earlier statements and to reaffirm that the public controversy was the result of misinterpretation rather than fact.#newsafro_
