An atmosphere of potential awkwardness may arise at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on Sunday during the Golden Globe Awards, following the release of the official seating arrangement for the ceremony.
Pursuant to the published seating chart, Leonardo DiCaprio, an acting nominee, has been assigned seating adjacent to Miley Cyrus, a nominee in the Best Original Song category. The proximity has attracted public attention due to prior remarks made by Cyrus in 2015, when she publicly criticized DiCaprio for allegedly failing to share a vape pen with her at a social event marking the 40th anniversary of Saturday Night Live. At the time, Cyrus stated on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon that basic social etiquette required DiCaprio to “pass” the device, an expectation she claimed was not met.
Cyrus further recounted that she encountered DiCaprio seated with his mother at the event and described his conduct as unusual. The exchange was later referenced in popular culture discussions, with Fallon characterizing DiCaprio as “bogarting” the vape, an assertion Cyrus affirmed.
At the Golden Globes ceremony, DiCaprio may alternatively direct his attention to Marlon Wayans, who is seated on his opposite side. Cyrus is nominated for Best Original Song for Dream As One, which she co-wrote and performed for Avatar: Fire and Ash. DiCaprio, meanwhile, is nominated for Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy for One Battle After Another, directed by Paul Thomas Anderson.
The event follows DiCaprio’s recent absence from the Palm Springs International Film Festival, where he was unable to attend in person due to air travel disruptions linked to U.S. military action in the Caribbean region. Although physically absent, DiCaprio accepted the Desert Palm Achievement Award remotely, delivering a video address that was reportedly well received by attendees.#newsafro_
