Adam Peaty has publicly expressed gratitude to Jesus in his first social media communication since his marriage to Holly Ramsay and his decision to adopt her surname.
The Olympic swimmer, who has openly identified as a practicing Christian, married Ms Ramsay, daughter of television personality Gordon Ramsay, at Bath Cathedral on December 27. The ceremony followed a family dispute that reportedly resulted in Peaty excluding his mother from attending the wedding.
Peaty, aged 31, returned to social media on New Year’s Eve, which also coincided with his wife’s 26th birthday. In his post, he reflected on the conclusion of 2025, attributing the events of the year to his faith. The message, which read, “It’s the last day of 2025. Thank you Jesus for everything this year,” was displayed over an image depicting seabirds flying above the ocean.
The athlete has previously spoken about personal challenges following his success at the Tokyo 2021 Olympic Games, during which he won two gold medals. He described a prolonged period of difficulty marked by mental health struggles, alcohol misuse, and the breakdown of his relationship with the mother of his child. Peaty has since credited his renewed Christian faith with supporting his recovery and eventual return to competitive swimming.
Raised in the Catholic tradition, Peaty has stated that he now attends an Evangelical church regularly and considers himself a religious individual. He has also acknowledged the influence of Olympic chaplain Ashley Null, whom he met during a period of professional decline, and who assisted him in reassessing his identity beyond athletic performance.
However, members of Peaty’s family have publicly questioned whether his actions align with his stated beliefs, citing his decision to exclude relatives from the wedding. They have further alleged that his mother, Caroline, was discouraged from attending due to disagreements over her attire.
Tensions between the families reportedly escalated after Caroline was excluded from pre-wedding celebrations and subsequently uninvited from the ceremony. It has also been alleged that remarks made by Gordon Ramsay during his post-wedding speech further deepened the divide, causing additional distress.
Amid the ongoing dispute, Caroline Peaty shared reflective messages on social media expressing hope for emotional recovery in the coming year. In re-posted statements, she conveyed a desire for peace, healing, and an end to personal suffering, emphasizing the importance of gradual reflection rather than formal resolutions as 2026 approaches.#newsafro_
