British former heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua was reportedly involved in a fatal motor vehicle accident in Ogun State, Nigeria, which resulted in the deaths of two individuals, according to statements from local law enforcement authorities.
Police officials stated that the incident occurred on Monday along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, when a Lexus SUV conveying Mr. Joshua collided with another vehicle under circumstances that remain the subject of an ongoing investigation. Mr. Joshua, aged 36, who was seated in the rear of the vehicle at the time of the collision, reportedly sustained minor injuries and is receiving medical attention.
In a statement, the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Oluseyi Babaseyi, confirmed that Mr. Joshua was not the driver of the vehicle and noted that inquiries into the cause of the accident are continuing. Mr. Joshua was unavailable for immediate comment.
Separately, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), through its spokesperson Mr. Olusegun Ogungbemide, indicated that preliminary findings suggest the vehicle may have been travelling in excess of the prescribed speed limit and lost control during an overtaking manoeuvre before colliding with a stationary truck parked along the roadway.
Eyewitness accounts, as reported by local media, stated that the Lexus SUV had four occupants, including Mr. Joshua, and that a separate security vehicle was travelling behind it prior to the incident. Two occupants of the Lexus were pronounced dead at the scene.
The accident occurred on a major transport corridor linking Ogun State with Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial capital. Investigations by the relevant authorities are ongoing, and no further conclusions have been officially drawn at this time.#newsafro_
