Afrobeats sensation Ahmed Ololade, professionally known as Asake, made a spectacular return to his alma mater, Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, on Monday, arriving on campus via helicopter and generating excitement among students and staff.
The award-winning artist was formally received by OAU’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Simeon Bamire, alongside senior university officials, including Dr. Oluwatoyin Ogundeji of the Department of Theater Arts, where Asake initially honed his creative skills.
At the OAU Amphitheater, Asake was greeted by a large gathering of students and delivered an emotionally charged performance that incorporated live drumming and a traditional Yoruba prostration, eliciting enthusiastic cheers and applause.
The singer, who studied Performing Arts at OAU, was joined on the visit by his mother and entertainer Yhemolee. The event underscored OAU’s longstanding reputation as a nurturing ground for creative talent, having produced notable figures in Nigeria’s entertainment industry, including fellow Afrobeats star Fireboy DML.#newsafro_
