Spencer Matthews has publicly expressed his disappointment at being unable to attend his wife, Vogue Williams’, departure from the program I’m A Celebrity… on Monday, due to his participation in an Iron Man challenge in Antarctica.
Ms. Williams, aged 40, was the third contestant to be eliminated from the competition following her placement in the bottom two alongside Kelly Brook, 46. Upon her exit—where she was received by her representative, Ms. Louisa McDonald—Mr. Matthews issued a public tribute via Instagram. Accompanying a photograph of the couple, he commended his wife as “courageous” and “fearless,” further stating that he looks forward to reuniting with her and their three children: Theodore (7), Gigi (5), and Otto (2).
Mr. Matthews wrote:
“I am disappointed to learn that my wife, Vogue, has been eliminated from I’m A Celeb, but I am immensely proud of the bravery she demonstrated throughout her participation. She displayed heart, courage, and composure during the challenges and remained a positive and pragmatic presence in camp. I would have preferred to be present to welcome her upon her exit, and I send her my love from Antarctica. The positive aspect is that we can now resume FaceTime calls—I know she will have missed the children greatly, and I cannot wait for us all to be reunited next week.”
Mr. Matthews recently completed his sixth consecutive Iron Man event in Brazil before traveling to Antarctica for the final race of his “seven Iron Mans on seven continents” challenge, scheduled to conclude next week. During this period, the couple’s children are in London under the care of Ms. Williams’ mother, Sandra.
Ms. Williams, who joined the program six days after the initial group of contestants as a surprise entrant alongside Tom Read Wilson, was eliminated after receiving the fewest public votes. In her post-exit interview, she stated that although she was pleased to leave—citing difficulties with the limited food—she would nonetheless miss her fellow participants.
She also addressed recent tensions within the camp, referencing a dispute involving domestic responsibilities and commenting on footage showing Kelly Brook, “AngryGinge,” and Aitch obtaining additional treats during a challenge. She described Kelly as a “snake” in reaction to the footage and expressed her support for Ruby Wax, 72, as the likely winner of the series.
Public commentary on social media suggested that Ms. Williams’ elimination was anticipated due to her conflicts with certain well-liked contestants. Viewers noted that disagreements between Ms. Williams and others, including AngryGinge and Aitch, had been a recurring theme.
In Sunday’s episode prior to her elimination, Ms. Williams received a letter from home written by Mr. Matthews.#newsafr0_
