Award-winning singer, songwriter, and record producer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has explained that his decision to hold his first major music concert in Nigeria in Akwa Ibom State was influenced by the state’s world-class facilities and enabling environment for entertainment.
Speaking at a pre-concert reception in Uyo on Sunday, hosted by Governor Umo Eno and Senate President Godswill Akpabio, the Afrobeats superstar said Akwa Ibom stood out among several African locations considered for the event.
“When we were looking around Africa, five places came up, and Akwa Ibom was at the top of the list,” Davido said. “A lot of people are flying in from other states that don’t have this type of facility. Everything about Akwa Ibom is beautiful. If all states in the country were like Akwa Ibom, I’d be comfortable touring all over Nigeria.”
Davido, who noted that this was his first live show in Nigeria after 14 years of performing globally, praised Governor Eno for maintaining peace and security and for providing platforms that empower young people to thrive.
“You have a standard facility, that’s why we are starting here,” he added. “We toured America already, and it was a great success. We were looking for a good facility around Africa, and Akwa Ibom is one of the best we found. I’m excited — the stadium is already filled up, so let’s get ready and shut it down.”
In his remarks, Senate President Akpabio commended Davido for selecting Akwa Ibom and lauded him for his positive influence on young Nigerians. He encouraged the artist to continue mentoring emerging talents and to include Akwa Ibom’s rising stars in his international tours.
Governor Umo Eno, while appreciating Davido for inspiring the younger generation, described him as a symbol of dedication and excellence.
“You have taken your career to the zenith, and it serves as an inspiration to our youths that what they set their hands to do is possible and achievable,” the governor said. “We are a youth-friendly state, and we are working to develop local talent. Thank you for sharing the stage with our homegrown entertainers — it gives them hope that one day they can also rise to your level.”
The highly anticipated concert, held at the Nest of Champions Stadium in Uyo, marks a milestone in Davido’s global tour, highlighting Akwa Ibom’s growing status as a leading destination for entertainment and cultural events in Africa.#newsafro_
