Taylor Swift’s ex-boyfriend Taylor Lautner has shared his reaction to her engagement to NFL star Travis Kelce.
The Twilight actor, 33, reposted a post from the NFL’s official Instagram account featuring Swift and Kelce’s engagement photo alongside an image of the couple celebrating the Chiefs’ 2024 Super Bowl victory. The caption quoted Swift telling Kelce, “I cannot believe this is really happening,” to which the tight end replied, “Same.”
Swift, 35, and Kelce, also 35, announced their engagement earlier this week, revealing that Kelce had secretly proposed two weeks ago.
Taylor Swift’s fairytale engagement to NFL star Travis Kelce has drawn reactions from fans, friends, and even her ex-boyfriend Taylor Lautner. The Twilight actor, 33, reshared the NFL’s official Instagram post celebrating the couple’s news, which included their engagement photos and a shot of them after the Kansas City Chiefs’ 2024 Super Bowl victory.
Swift, 35, and Lautner first dated briefly in 2009 after meeting on the set of the ensemble rom-com Valentine’s Day, where they played love interests and even shared an on-screen kiss. Swift once described the moment as “life-changing,” while Lautner admitted she was “definitely his type.” At the time, Swift coyly told a radio host, “He’s an amazing guy and we’re really close… and ah… yep.”
Their romance, however, lasted only two months. “He liked her more than she liked him. He went everywhere he could to see her, but she didn’t travel much to see him,” a source told Us Weekly back then. Lautner later confirmed on the Call Her Daddy podcast in 2023 that Swift had ended things, though he said he had always held her in the highest regard. “When you respect somebody for who they are, like in their soul, it allows you to move on, forgive, and continue that love in a different way,” he explained.
Over the years, Lautner has often been linked back to Swift in fan discussions, with many speculating that her 2010 ballad Back to December was inspired by their short-lived romance. His frequent mentions of her have sparked mixed reactions from Swift’s fans—some praising his candor, while others have urged him to “move on.”
Despite the breakup, the pair have remained on good terms. In 2023, Lautner appeared in the music video for I Can See You, a vault track from Swift’s Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) re-release, alongside Joey King and Presley Cash. During her Kansas City concert, Swift brought the trio on stage, praising Lautner for the impact he had on her life.
Lautner has since settled into married life with Taylor Dome, whom he wed in 2022. Still, his latest nod to Swift’s engagement shows their relationship has come full circle—shifting from young Hollywood romance to enduring mutual respect.#newsafro_
