Actress Michelle Williams, aged 44, has confirmed the birth of her fourth child, her first to be delivered through surrogacy. The child is her third with her spouse, Thomas Kail, aged 48.
Williams disclosed this information during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, hosted on that occasion by Tiffany Haddish. During the exchange, Haddish, aged 45 and recently a parent herself, commended Williams on her post-pregnancy appearance.
During her appearance, Williams expressed gratitude toward her surrogate, identified as Christine, while also intimating that her newborn child is female. Williams stated: ‘Then I’ve got to give a big shout out to Christine, cuz this last baby did not come through my body. But the miracle of our little girl is thanks to Christine. Maybe you’re watching out there; thank you, Christine.’
Williams is also the mother of Matilda, aged 19, whom she shares with the late Academy Award–winning actor Heath Ledger, who passed away in 2008. In addition, she shares two children with her husband, director and producer Thomas Kail: Hart, aged four, and another child born in 2022, whose name has not been publicly disclosed.
She reiterated her appreciation for her surrogate, noting: ‘Thanks to Christine, I have three under five at home.’ Williams further reflected on balancing her acting career with the demands of parenting three young children, remarking: ‘Everything’s good and under control. I’m the adult. I’m trying to figure out the sort of life-work balance. I hear a lot of people are talking about self-care, and I’m just wondering when. Because I’m a working mom. Like, I already have the guilt, and I don’t want to take more time away from them, but I understand, like, I need to fill up the tank.’
She also briefly described her personal approach to the limited private time available to her.
Williams elaborated that, in her limited personal time, she attends to civic obligations, humorously remarking: ‘It’s by visiting our fine local establishments of government bureaucracy. You say, “I’m sorry, honey. But one day you’re going to grow up, and you’re going to get a job. And you’re going to pay taxes, and you’re going to need a social security number for that.”’
Her spouse, Thomas Kail, is a theater director best known for his direction of both the Off-Broadway and Broadway productions of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s In the Heights and Hamilton. The couple, who were married in 2020, welcomed their son Hart later that same year.#newsafro_
