Country music artist Ms. Dolly Parton has publicly extended words of counsel and encouragement to her acquaintance, Ms. Kelly Clarkson, in connection with the recent passing of Ms. Clarkson’s former spouse, Mr. Brandon Blackstock, aged 48, following a documented illness identified as melanoma.
Ms. Parton’s remarks are informed by her own recent personal bereavement, having lost her spouse of 58 years, Mr. Carl Dean, in March of the present year, at the age of 82. Mr. Dean, who maintained a private existence outside of the public sphere, predeceased Ms. Parton by approximately five months.
In comments provided to Entertainment Tonight, Ms. Parton advised both Ms. Clarkson and Ms. Reba McEntire — the latter being the former stepmother of Mr. Blackstock — to focus upon and derive comfort from the favorable recollections and positive experiences shared with the decedent during his lifetime. Ms. Parton stated: “I think that you just have to be grateful for the years that you’ve had with someone, and just try to remember the very best of all that,” further recommending that such recollections be “recycled” into one’s personal outlook and preserved as part of one’s ongoing life experience.
She further counseled that both Ms. Clarkson and Ms. McEntire should “honor [his] memory” and take solace in the belief that their late relative and former spouse “is in a better place.”
When asked whether she had yet directly communicated with Ms. Clarkson to convey condolences, Ms. Parton indicated that, due to professional obligations associated with the promotion of her memoir, Star of the Show: My Life on Stage, she had not yet done so but intended to “catch up with her” at the earliest practicable opportunity. She further confirmed that she would see Ms. McEntire imminently in connection with joint publicity activities for said memoir.
Ms. Parton concluded her remarks by affirming her affection for both Ms. Clarkson and Ms. McEntire and acknowledging the inherent difficulty in maintaining personal contact with friends in the entertainment industry due to the demands of their respective professional schedules.
Ms. Dolly Parton further elaborated that, notwithstanding her extensive professional network, she rarely has the opportunity to engage in substantive personal interaction with colleagues in the entertainment industry. She stated that, when asked to identify her closest personal relationships, she invariably cites her family — particularly her sisters — as her “best friends,” noting a lack of available time to engage in regular social activities outside her familial circle.
The late Mr. Brandon Blackstock was last publicly photographed in March of the current year, during the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, appearing in a group image with Ms. Reba McEntire and his daughter, Ms. Savannah Blackstock — his child from his prior marriage to Ms. Melissa Ashworth — who was depicted holding her son, Lake, on her lap. At the time, Mr. Blackstock appeared visibly diminished in physical condition.
In March of this year, Ms. Parton herself suffered a significant personal loss upon the passing of her husband, Mr. Carl Dean, on March 3, following nearly six decades of marriage. In a public statement, Ms. Parton reflected upon the “many wonderful years” they had shared, expressing profound love for Mr. Dean and extending gratitude to the public for their expressions of sympathy and prayers.
The marriage between Ms. Parton and Mr. Dean commenced in 1966 and endured until his death. In the year 2024, Ms. Parton disclosed details concerning her marital relationship, including that her spouse, described as a “homebody,” declined to participate in public events alongside her.#newsafro_
