On Friday, television presenter Kate Garraway, aged 58, was seen in London appearing composed following the compelled listing of her £2 million property for sale. The sale was necessitated by substantial personal debt—reportedly amounting to approximately £800,000—incurred during the prolonged period of care she provided for her late husband, Derek Draper.
During her public appearance in the capital, Ms. Garraway was attired in a colourful, bohemian-style skirt paired with a fitted T-shirt and coordinated beige cardigan. She carried a crossbody bag and was observed pulling a suitcase, suggesting travel or extended engagement outside the home.
To complete her ensemble, Ms. Garraway wore tan sandals, styled her hair in a straight fashion, and appeared to have applied minimal cosmetic enhancement.
The decision to sell her secondary residence was made in response to significant financial obligations arising from the prolonged medical care of her late husband, Derek Draper, who endured a protracted four-year battle with complications related to COVID-19 prior to his passing in January of the previous year.
Ms. Kate Garraway is presently managing additional financial liabilities stemming from the insolvency of Astra Aspera Ltd, a psychotherapy business previously operated by her late husband, Mr. Derek Draper. The company reportedly accrued substantial debt, including significant outstanding obligations to Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC). Ms. Garraway is currently engaged in efforts to satisfy a portion of the remaining debt.
In response to these financial pressures, the Good Morning Britain presenter has placed on the market a three-bedroom, four-storey townhouse located in Islington, North London. The property, which the couple originally acquired in 2004 for approximately £550,000, had previously been listed for rental at £6,750 per month. According to records confirmed by the Land Registry Office, the property is now in the process of being sold and is expected to command a price in the region of £2 million.
In January of the previous year, The Mail on Sunday reported that Ms. Garraway was facing the potential necessity of selling her primary family residence in Muswell Hill. However, the pending sale of the Islington property appears to have averted that outcome.
The Daily Mail has sought comment from Ms. Garraway’s representatives.
An unnamed source, speaking at the time, stated:
“It is profoundly unfortunate for Ms. Garraway. Not only did she endure the emotional toll of witnessing her husband’s prolonged medical decline over nearly four years, but she has also contended with persistent financial concerns. The cost of providing comprehensive care and pursuing every possible avenue for his recovery has reached several hundred thousand pounds, leaving her in a precarious financial position. The property now represents one of her remaining significant assets, and she is coming to terms with the possibility of its sale.”
According to publicly available rental listings, the Islington residence features both a private garden and a rooftop terrace.#newsafro_
