Mr. Tyler Perry, a prominent figure in the entertainment industry, aged 55, recently disclosed in an interview on the YouTube series Den of Kings, hosted by Kirk Franklin, that he had terminated the employment of a close relative due to her failure to demonstrate the requisite seriousness and commitment to a position he had provided.
During the discussion, Mr. Perry—who maintains a well-documented friendship with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex—explained that he had communicated to his aunt that continued reliance on his financial resources without rendering any meaningful contribution was unacceptable.
He stated: ‘She would always call asking for money, I would send her the money,’ indicating a recurring pattern of financial dependency that ultimately led to his decision to cease such support.
Mr. Tyler Perry, who has recently refuted allegations of sexual harassment made by an actor, recounted a conversation with his aunt in which he expressed a desire to provide meaningful assistance rather than ongoing financial dependency. He stated: ‘Listen, I want to help you – I want to help you build this thing, not be welfare to you – so, let me give you a job.’
Mr. Perry, the creator of the Madea franchise and whose net worth is estimated by Forbes at approximately $1.4 billion, further disclosed that despite his efforts, he ultimately terminated his aunt’s employment due to her repeated absences and failure to fulfill the responsibilities of the position he had offered her.
Mr. Tyler Perry stated that he confronted his aunt regarding her lack of accountability, noting that she appeared to believe their familial relationship would insulate her from the consequences of professional misconduct—specifically, her repeated failure to report for work.
Mr. Perry explained that he personally terminated her employment, advising her: ‘Well, you gotta go, because you want me to hand you the money, but you don’t want to work for it.’
He further emphasized that he is instilling similar principles in his 10-year-old son, Aman, by requiring him to complete household chores as a condition for receiving an allowance. Mr. Perry remarked, ‘I don’t believe in giving us things that are just going to handicap us — that is the worst thing you can do.’
He also recalled that following the passing of his mother, Maxine, in 2009, he informed several extended family members—individuals his mother had previously asked him to support financially—that they would be required to seek employment. He afforded them a 60-day period to do so, after which he ceased further financial assistance.#newsafro_
