On Sunday, Ms. Rita Ora took to the stage at Capital’s Summertime Ball with Barclaycard, held at Wembley Stadium, delivering a high-energy performance before an audience of approximately 80,000 attendees.
The 34-year-old recording artist was among the headline acts, which also included Ms. Jade Thirlwall, Mr. Will Smith, and Ms. Jessie J. Ms. Ora performed a selection of her most commercially successful songs and appeared in a coordinated leather ensemble comprising high-cut shorts and a cropped top, accentuating her physique. The look was completed with knee-high leather boots, consistent with her established pop star image.
The event also featured a surprise appearance by the British pop group JLS—comprised of Mr. Aston Merrygold, Mr. Oritsé Williams, Mr. Marvin Humes, and Mr. JB Gill—whose unexpected set prompted an enthusiastic response from the audience. Following in the tradition of past unannounced performers such as Mr. Craig David and Ms. Perrie Edwards, JLS took to the stage in coordinated denim attire and performed a medley of their popular tracks, including The Club Is Alive, She Makes Me Wanna, Beat Again, and Everybody in Love.
In a statement regarding their unannounced appearance at Capital’s Summertime Ball, the members of JLS commented:
“It’s been 16 years since our first Capital’s Summertime Ball, and there was no better way to return than by surprising fans with our Barclaycard Out of the Blue performance. We love sharing the stage together, and performing at such an iconic venue once again was truly incredible. Hearing 80,000 people sing along to every word was a moment we’ll never forget.”
Elsewhere during the event, actor and musician Mr. Will Smith, aged 56 and widely known for his role in The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, delivered a high-energy musical set. In a special moment recognising Father’s Day, Mr. Smith brought his son, Mr. Jaden Smith, aged 26 and also an established recording artist, on stage to join him.
Upon his entrance, Mr. Jaden Smith light-heartedly remarked, “I’m only joining because it’s Father’s Day,” to which Mr. Smith responded by addressing the audience:
“Ladies and gentlemen, can you get yourselves up for a second and say hi? This is my son Jaden. It’s a very good time to say, ‘I love you.’”
Mr. Smith continued by expressing his appreciation for parenthood, stating:
“Happy Father’s Day to all the fathers out there — that’s my guy right there.”
He concluded the segment by encouraging audience members to embrace their children and verbally express their love, further adding a heartfelt dimension to the performance.#newsafro_
