President Bola Tinubu has been honored with the Lifetime African Achievement Award by the Millennium Excellence Foundation in Ghana, as reported by NAN on Monday.
The award was presented to Tinubu during the 25th anniversary celebration of the Millennium Excellence Prize in Kumasi, Ghana. Represented by the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, Tinubu expressed his appreciation to the patron of the foundation, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, for both the invitation and the successful execution of the event.
In his remarks, Tinubu praised the visionaries who have supported the foundation over the past 25 years and emphasized the values of honor, integrity, service, and excellence that are central to its work.
President Tinubu also specifically commended the organizers of the Millennium Excellence Foundation for their efforts in identifying and celebrating Africa’s shining lights—individuals whose lives and work have significantly lifted the continent and inspired generations. He highlighted the notable figures previously honored by the foundation, including the late Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Prof. Wole Soyinka, President Cyril Ramaphosa, and Dr. Mo Ibrahim, noting that recognizing such illustrious personalities is no small achievement.
Tinubu urged the younger generation of Africans to rise with courage and contribute their part toward making Africa a more united, peaceful, and prosperous continent.
President Tinubu emphasized the importance of contributions in science, technology, education, governance, entrepreneurship, and the arts, urging Africans to work together to shape their shared destiny. He encouraged the event organizers to continue fostering excellence, promoting values of leadership with service, and investing in youth to strengthen collaboration across borders.
He also praised the Millennium Excellence Prize, noting that it has been a beacon of inspiration and recognition since its inception in 1988. The foundation’s mission of identifying, celebrating, and supporting those who have distinguished themselves in the pursuit of African development aligns with the aspirations of Nigeria and all African nations.
During the event, several individuals were honored with prestigious awards. Tinubu received the Lifetime African Achievement Prize, Dr. Benedict Oramah, President/Chairman of the African Export-Import Bank (AFREXIM), was awarded the Global Intra-African Trade Excellence in Africa. Akwa Ibom State Governor Pastor Umo Eno was recognized for Governance and Public Service, Alhaji AbdulSamad Rabiu, Founder/Chairman of BUA Group, was awarded for African Excellence in Business, and Mr. Dumo Lulu-Briggs received the African Traditional Leadership and Business Excellence Award.#newsafro_
