Kanye West unilaterally discontinued a scheduled interview with broadcaster Piers Morgan approximately two minutes after the commencement of questioning, following remarks by Mr. Morgan characterizing Mr. West’s demeanor as that of “a big baby.”
The interview, arranged in the context of Mr. West’s recent public commentary and widely publicized social media activity, was conducted for Mr. Morgan’s YouTube program Uncensored. Mr. Morgan subsequently confirmed via the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) that the interview was brief and unsuccessful, stating: “So, I interviewed Kanye West again today. As I expected, given what I’ve said about him recently, it didn’t last long or go well. This was him right before he stomped off like a big baby,” accompanied by a photograph purportedly taken moments before Mr. West’s departure.
During the course of the interview, Mr. West promptly objected to Mr. Morgan’s use of the surname “West” in the program’s introductory remarks. Despite Mr. Morgan subsequently addressing him as “Ye” in his first formal question, Mr. West interjected to clarify his position, stating: “I don’t use the term West, you know, the whole drop the slave name idea?”
In response, Mr. Morgan sought confirmation by asking, “Ok, so we just call you Ye, yeah?” to which Mr. West affirmed: “Yes sir.”
Thereafter, Mr. Morgan proceeded to inquire about Mr. West’s recent personal circumstances. Mr. West, who was accompanied by internet personality Sneako, responded by providing commentary on his current environment and the location from which he was participating in the interview.
Mr. West commenced his response by drawing attention to his surroundings, stating: “You see that view?… Judge it on the view, on the answer to how my life is—judge me by the view.”
Mr. Morgan replied: “The view is Majorca—I’ve been there. It’s a beautiful place, and for all intents and purposes, you appear very relaxed and content.” He continued, “That is in direct contrast to your public image at the moment, over the last couple of years, led by your ferocious—” at which point he was interrupted by Mr. West.
Mr. West interjected: “But I already disagree. It’s not in contrast. There are so many people and artists who are advocating for the right to authentically express oneself. I’ve endured the hostility of being targeted by financial institutions—yes, attacked by the banks—and to still be here, with this view, that’s the victory. So, I believe I am in contrast to your contrast.”
Mr. Morgan attempted to resume his question: “OK, but the point I was going to make is that I observe your activity on the platform X—you have 32 million followers, making you one of the most followed individuals—”
Mr. West responded sharply: “Now, look, right now you’re not going to take inches off my dick, bro. Like, how many followers do I have?”
When Mr. Morgan sought clarification, Mr. West remarked that Mr. Morgan had a team available to ascertain the exact figure. Mr. Morgan then responded: “I’m told it’s 33 million now. So congratulations—you have a slightly larger following than I initially thought.”#newsafro_
