Kim Kardashian and her siblings have addressed the future of their partnership with Hulu following the conclusion of The Kardashians season six earlier this month.
Despite earlier claims by Disney that season five achieved impressive ratings upon its 2024 premiere, the most recent season has faced significant backlash from fans, many of whom criticized the show’s storylines as “dull” and lacking authenticity.
Nevertheless, the Kardashian-Jenner family appears committed to their relationship with the streaming giant. On Tuesday, Disney reaffirmed this alliance by announcing plans for a new Kardashians spinoff project, signaling continued collaboration between the two parties.
Rob Mills, Executive Vice President of Disney’s Unscripted and Alternative Entertainment division, has confirmed that the Kardashian-Jenner family is actively developing a new Hulu series titled Calabasas Behind The Gates, as reported by Deadline.
The forthcoming spinoff takes its name from the exclusive city in Los Angeles County where several members of the family reside. Like The Kardashians, the new series will stream on Hulu, a platform under the Disney umbrella.
Khloé Kardashian, appearing alongside Scott Disick and Rob Mills at Hulu’s “Get Real House” event, described the upcoming project as “very exciting, very new, very excellent,” according to People, signaling a fresh direction for the family’s reality TV brand.
Khloé Kardashian expressed enthusiasm for the project, stating, “We’re excited to continue developing.” Rob Mills, Disney’s Executive VP of Unscripted Content, added that the new series aims to explore “what’s happening behind the gates of Calabasas,” focusing on the extended social circle of the Kardashian-Jenner family. He noted the series would delve into “who are all these people in the extended lives of the Kardashians?”
Khloé, host of Khloé In Wonder Land, explained that the spinoff would give fans a closer look at their friends and neighbors, further expanding the world built in The Kardashians. However, it remains unclear whether the show will feature familiar faces or introduce new personalities with the charisma—and drama—to carry a series.
Although Khloé and her siblings have regularly introduced close friends on both The Kardashians and Keeping Up With the Kardashians, she declined to confirm whether they—or she herself—would appear in the new spinoff. Scott Disick also remained noncommittal about his involvement.
Notably, Disick, who shares three children with Kourtney Kardashian, has seen reduced screen time on the flagship series, especially following Kourtney’s marriage to Travis Barker in 2022 and the birth of their child. Given his diminished role in the main series, Disick may be a strong candidate for more prominent involvement in Calabasas Behind The Gates, though he has yet to comment on the possibility.#newsafro_
