Jessica Simpson’s recent Instagram video has raised concerns among fans, with many questioning her speech as she appeared to be “slurring” her words. In the clip, the 44-year-old singer, on her way to the 2025 South by Southwest festival in Austin, Texas, shared a lighthearted moment as she headed to Enterprise to rent a car. She greeted her followers, saying, “Hey everybody, it’s Jessica Simpson. We just landed in Austin, and right now I’m going to wait in line at Enterprise. This is not an ad, but I’m getting a rental car.”
Simpson, who recently announced her split from husband Eric Johnson, was dressed in a striking blue faux fur jacket over a cheetah print outfit, accessorized with a large silver cross, silver belt, and sunglasses. However, many fans were quick to comment on her manner of speaking, with one asking, “What’s with the slurring though?” Others jokingly speculated that she might have had a drink on the plane, despite Simpson’s seven years of sobriety. One commenter even remarked, “I thought this was Jennifer Coolidge in White Lotus,” referencing Coolidge’s eccentric character Tanya McQuoid.
Simpson has been open about her journey with sobriety, recently telling The Cut that it has helped her be more authentic and comfortable in her own skin. Reflecting on her earlier years, she said, “Around 2016, ’17, I was writing with some of the biggest hitmakers. I have songs from those times that I never released because they just didn’t feel like me.” She explained that drinking had stifled her creative process, but once she gave up alcohol, her fears diminished, and it became easier to access her true artistic self.
Last year, Simpson publicly denied rumors that she had returned to drinking, asserting that she has been sober since October 2017. When a fan commented on a post about her son Ace, accusing her of drinking, Simpson responded, clarifying her sobriety and emphasizing that it had been the best decision she made for herself and her family. This isn’t the first time Simpson’s speech has raised eyebrows; fans previously expressed similar concerns after a “strange” video in 2022 where she also appeared to slur her words.#newsafro_
