Rihanna has spoken out following the not guilty verdict in her boyfriend A$AP Rocky’s felony shooting trial. The 36-year-old pop star took to her Instagram Stories on Tuesday night to express her gratitude and celebrate the outcome, which spared Rocky from facing a potential 24-year prison sentence.
“The glory belongs to God and to God alone,” she wrote, adding, “Thankful, humbled by His mercy,” and signing off with a praying hands emoji.
Rihanna’s emotional post followed a powerful moment in the courtroom. As the verdict was announced, she was visibly overcome with emotion, breaking down in tears. A$AP Rocky, equally moved, rushed to embrace her. The courtroom erupted in cheers as the couple held each other tightly, overwhelmed with relief after the verdict.
Outside the courtroom, A$AP Rocky expressed his deep gratitude, thanking both God and the jury for their decision. “Thanks y’all for saving my life,” he told the jury, which consisted of seven women and five men, according to the AP.
Rocky’s attorney, Joe Tacopina, shared that although the rapper had hoped to shield Rihanna from the trial, “wild horses couldn’t keep her away.”
The jury reached a unanimous decision after deliberating for approximately three hours following closing arguments last week. Before the trial began, A$AP Rocky had turned down a plea deal offered by prosecutors, which would have included a six-month jail sentence and probation in exchange for pleading guilty to one count.
Following the verdict, A$AP Rocky celebrated with Rihanna and his legal team in the courtroom, before continuing the celebration after leaving the building. Prosecutors had accused him of shooting twice at his former friend, A$AP Relli, in the alleged incident.#newsafro_
