Maureen Nolan has issued her first public statement following the death of her sister, Linda Nolan, at the age of 65 on Wednesday.
According to Linda’s agent, Dermot McNamara, she passed away in the hospital surrounded by her renowned sisters, after enduring a 20-year battle with breast cancer.
However, in her tribute, Maureen clarified that cancer was not the cause of Linda’s death, revealing that she succumbed to double pneumonia contracted during the Christmas and New Year period.
Maureen Nolan expressed her heartbreak in a heartfelt tribute, writing:
“Our beautiful @thelindanolan left us yesterday. There’s so much to say, but I’m not sure where to begin—or if I even can. Countless memories, countless laughs, and her constant support when it was truly needed. I am heartbroken, as we all are, just so deeply sad [heartbroken emojis].
“I also want to say to everyone who felt inspired by Linda: the ‘big C’ didn’t actually take her. She contracted double pneumonia over Christmas and New Year, and with her compromised immune system, it was one battle too many.”
Maureen Nolan concluded her tribute with a message of hope for those battling cancer, stating:
“So please remain hopeful and strong if you are suffering. Linda endured nearly 20 years with one cancer or another, and so can you.”
Accompanying her tribute, Maureen shared a collection of photographs capturing cherished moments of the sisters together at various events and family gatherings.
Meanwhile, Linda’s sister and Loose Women panelist Coleen Nolan offered her own heartfelt statement, expressing:
“I am utterly devastated by the passing of my sister, Linda.
“Linda was a beacon of love, kindness, and strength. Her wit, humour, and laughter were infectious, and her presence could light up any room. Linda had a heart full of compassion and always knew how to bring comfort and joy to those around her.
“Her memory will live on in the many lives she touched. While we miss her more than words can express, we take solace in the love and warmth she shared with all of us. Rest in peace, Linda. You will forever be in our hearts.
“Love you, Coleen xxx (Colette).”
Messages of support poured in for the family, with Leigh Francis writing, “Sending you magical powers xxx,” and Nicola Appleton adding, “I am so sorry ❤️xx.”
