Zara McDermott’s relationship with Sam Thompson was irreparably compromised from the moment she engaged in an affair with a music executive during her appearance on The X Factor five years ago, the MailOnline can exclusively reveal.
Sources close to the couple allege that Sam Thompson’s family never fully forgave Zara McDermott following her 2019 affair with music executive Brahim Fouradi, despite their efforts to reintegrate her into the family dynamic.
Sam’s sister, Louise Thompson, aged 34, was reportedly the most outspoken critic of Zara’s actions, openly questioning her brother’s decision to reconcile. However, for Sam’s sake, Louise ultimately agreed to extend Zara a second chance.
The couple’s relationship ultimately failed to stand the test of time, with Zara McDermott and Sam Thompson officially ending their ties just over five years after her infidelity.
The split came as little surprise to insiders, who remarked on the challenges they faced in rebuilding trust. One source close to the reality stars observed: “Zara and Sam’s relationship never truly felt destined for the long haul. Most couples would have struggled to last as long as they did after such a betrayal.”
The source added: “Zara had significant ground to cover in making amends, particularly with Louise. She was deeply unhappy when Sam chose to take Zara back.”
Despite Zara McDermott’s efforts to mend the relationship, insiders suggest it was clear the couple’s bond was unlikely to become truly serious. One source commented: “She managed to make it work, and they had some great times together again, but it always felt like the relationship wasn’t built to last. They were delaying the inevitable for months as they drifted apart, with their lives becoming increasingly different.”
Another friend described Zara and Sam as an “odd pairing,” adding: “Sam is like a man-child with endless energy, whereas Zara, behind the fun you see on their TikTok videos, is more grounded and mature. She’s a fashion girl at heart, only 28, but with an old head on young shoulders.”
