Angelina Jolie presented a sophisticated appearance in a black velvet co-ord ensemble while attending the screening of her latest film, Maria, in London. This event follows her disclosure that she nearly lost consciousness during the filming process.
The 49-year-old actress, known for her role in Maleficent, who has been actively promoting the biographical psychological drama based on the life of opera singer Maria Callas, appeared youthful as she engaged in a discussion about her latest project on stage at The Ham Yard Hotel.
Maria, which has already sparked Oscar buzz following the release of its trailer, was made available on Netflix on December 11.
For the screening, Angelina Jolie captivated attendees in an elegant black velvet two-piece, consisting of tailored trousers and a long-sleeve top.
She complemented the ensemble with sleek black court heels and opted for minimal accessories.
The actress appeared in excellent spirits as she took the stage alongside Guy Hendrix Dyas, Massimo Cantini Parrini, and Steven Knight.
Also present at the screening were Game of Thrones stars Kit Harington and Nathalie Emmanuel.
Kit looked polished in a navy suit, while Nathalie turned heads in a pale blue embroidered satin two-piece.
This event followed Angelina Jolie’s revelation that she “nearly fainted” during filming for Maria.
The actress fully immersed herself in the world of Maria Callas prior to shooting, undertaking Italian lessons and studying archival footage of the iconic opera singer to perfect her posture and lyrical speaking voice.
In the film, Angelina’s opera vocals are blended with actual recordings of Callas.
Reflecting on her experience, Angelina shared with USA Today, “When I first started singing, I was faint after almost every time I sang. I just couldn’t quite grasp that my body wasn’t strong enough. It’s like an athlete – it’s one of the most physically demanding things you can do.”
Alongside Jolie, the film features an ensemble cast including Pierfrancesco Favino, Alba Rohrwacher, Haluk Bilginer, and Kodi Smit-McPhee.
The biopic premiered in August at the 81st Venice International Film Festival, where it competed for the prestigious Golden Lion.
The film had a limited theatrical release in the United States beginning November 27, before becoming available on Netflix on December 11.
According to the IMDb synopsis, the film’s premise centers on “Maria Callas, the world’s greatest opera singer, as she lives the final days of her life in 1970s Paris, confronting her identity and past.”
In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Angelina discussed the challenges of portraying Callas and the extensive preparation she underwent, including singing lessons.
“It took many months of singing classes. Months of just getting the singing down, then the Italian classes, and the voice work, doing all these things like her. You try to be precise,” she explained.
