The representative for Miss South Africa has formally withdrawn from participation in the upcoming Miss Universe pageant, citing health-related considerations as the primary factor necessitating this decision.
Mia Le Roux, recently crowned Miss South Africa 2024, has officially announced her withdrawal from the Miss Universe competition, citing health concerns as the reason for this decision.
In a statement issued on Friday by the Miss South Africa Organisation, Le Roux expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the people of South Africa for their support, acknowledging the difficulty of her decision while emphasizing the necessity of prioritizing her well-being.
“This decision has been exceptionally difficult, given the immense dreams and expectations entrusted to me. However, I am profoundly thankful for the unwavering support I have received from South Africans during my Miss Universe journey,” Le Roux stated. “I am equally grateful for the opportunity to focus on my health and recovery, enabling me to continue serving my country to the best of my ability.”
The Miss South Africa Organisation has publicly affirmed its unwavering support for Mia Le Roux, commending her resilience and emphasizing the importance of prioritizing her health.

Le Roux’s withdrawal occurs amidst a contentious year for the Miss South Africa pageant, marked by significant controversy surrounding its participants.
Earlier, Chidimma Adetshina, a contestant of Nigerian and South African heritage, withdrew from the competition following a social media uproar concerning her nationality. Adetshina, 23, was born in Soweto to a Nigerian father and a South African mother of Mozambican descent.
The controversy intensified when the South African Home Affairs Ministry initiated an investigation, uncovering allegations of identity theft involving Adetshina’s mother.
Despite the backlash, Adetshina went on to compete in the Miss Universe Nigeria 2024 pageant, ultimately securing the title. Following her departure, Le Roux, a descendant of Dutch settlers historically known as Boers, was crowned Miss South Africa 2024.
