In a recent interview with Madame Joyce, Nigerian media personality Toke Makinwa shared her views on red flags in relationships and revealed behaviours that would lead her to cut a man off for good. She expressed strong opinions about certain behaviours, including:
Talking down exes: Makinwa made it clear that if a man constantly speaks ill of his ex, she would never engage with him again. She believes that such behaviour indicates unresolved issues and a lack of maturity.
Obsessing over exes: She also warned against men who consistently bring up their exes. If a man is constantly talking about his past relationships, it shows that he hasn’t truly moved on.
Making comparisons: Makinwa dislikes men who compare her to others, especially in negative ways. She believes that such comparisons are disrespectful and undermine the uniqueness of the current relationship.
She further cautioned women not to ignore the red flag of men who trash-talk their exes, explaining that what a man did to his previous partner could easily be repeated in the future. She added, “Your vagina is not made of gold; what he did to his ex, he can do times two to you.”
Makinwa also discussed the tendency for women to think, “It can never be me,” when it comes to relationship issues. She shared that she has learned not to judge others, acknowledging that life can quickly humble anyone. She emphasized that people are often the harshest judges of others but act defensively when they face similar situations themselves.
