Nigerian gospel singer Damilare Odunuga, popularly known as Dare Melody, recently opened up about the challenges his late wife, Adedoyin, endured within his family. During her Christian wake on Friday, Dare Melody shared heartfelt memories of his wife, who passed away on October 24, 2024, at the age of 47. In a video posted on Kilarigbo TV’s YouTube channel, he expressed regret over how family members consistently created difficulties for Adedoyin, recalling how he often reassured her with the words, “Adedoyin, I’m the one you married, and whenever you see me, put your mind at rest.”
Dare Melody spoke about Adedoyin’s unwavering support during his early career struggles, particularly a time when financial hardship left them with little to eat. Despite being blacklisted by a promoter, limiting his career growth, Adedoyin stood by him. He reminisced about one New Year’s celebration when they shared a meal of biscuits with their young daughter. He recalled praying, “If truly you’re the one who called me, let people know you did.” The success of his 2010 record Goodness and Mercy revived his career and enabled him to build a home, a project he dedicated to her. “Everything I have is for her,” he said.
Dare Melody’s brother also shared an emotional story during the wake, recalling an incident at their mother’s 50th birthday party where Adedoyin faced harsh treatment from family members. He described seeing her come outside, saddened by the experience, and recalled advising her, “If I were in your shoes, I would leave this family because what they did to you that day is enough to make anyone leave.”
Dare Melody’s reflections reveal the profound impact Adedoyin had on his life, highlighting her resilience and loyalty amidst personal challenges.
