West Ham United is at the forefront of negotiations to secure the services of Ademola Lookman, a forward for the Super Eagles currently with Atalanta. The club aims to outmaneuver Premier League competitors Manchester United and Arsenal, as well as Paris Saint-Germain, in acquiring his signature, as reported by PUNCH Sports Extra.
As indicated by GIVEMESPORT, the London-based club regards the 2024 Ballon d’Or nominee as a pivotal target to enhance Julen Lopetegui’s offensive capabilities, particularly in light of their subpar performance at the beginning of the season.
Lookman had an exceptional 2023/24 season with Atalanta, netting 17 goals and providing 10 assists across all competitions. Notably, he achieved a historic hat-trick in the Europa League final, contributing to the club’s inaugural European trophy.
The 27-year-old forward’s remarkable performances culminated in a 14th-place finish in the recent Ballon d’Or rankings, surpassing notable Premier League players such as Bukayo Saka, Martin Ødegaard, and Cole Palmer. The former Everton and Fulham winger, who has successfully transitioned to a striking role in Italy, may be available for approximately €25 million, despite being under contract with Atalanta until 2026.
Italian reports have suggested that Lookman is actively pursuing a new challenge and could potentially depart the Serie A club during the January transfer window.
The Nigeria international has continued to exhibit his exceptional form this season, contributing five goals and five assists in 10 appearances across all competitions. West Ham United views him as an ideal enhancement to their attacking lineup, which currently includes Jarrod Bowen, Mohammed Kudus, and Lucas Paquetá. This move aims to address concerns regarding their striking options, particularly given Michail Antonio’s advancing age and the underwhelming impact of summer signing Niclas Füllkrug.
